The Food Redistribution Working Group (WG) held its second meeting last Thursday, July 30, once again marked by high engagement and active participation from signatory companies and supporting organizations. The meeting was led by partner Pact Against Hunger, with the objective of debating practical solutions for the redistribution and donation of perishable products.

The main debate addressed the management of F&V (Fruits and Vegetables), due to high perishability, impact on quality and price caused by climate variations, and market aesthetic demands.

The technical sharing was led by professor and researcher from UNESP (Bauru campus), Dr. Camila Colombo de Moraes, member of the Department of Production Engineering. With experience in the food retail, supply chain, and operations management sectors, she led the discussion based on sharing data on the main factors that lead to the loss and waste of perishables and strategies to minimize this result.

The exchange among participants highlighted that challenges in F&V management at points of sale can be optimized with the support of forecasting and procurement planning technologies. Furthermore, the group reinforced the importance of expanding and strengthening donation and redistribution routes for items outside commercial aesthetic standards, but in perfect conditions for consumption, joining efforts in mitigating waste.

The diversity of sectors present enriched the exchange of experiences and pointed out new testing possibilities for the next stages.

The transformation of our food chain involves the intelligent use of data and strong coordination between the private sector, public authorities, society, and academia. The discussions of this group are part of a broader program agenda, which also works in coordination with the Data WG and the Fiscal WG.
